Old Town – Ronald R. Dionne, 84, passed away on October 12, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born in Caribou, Maine February 20, 1939, the son of Leo P. and Everlyn (Pelletier) Dionne. The family moved to Portland, Maine and then Old Town.
Ronald graduated from Old Town High School in 1956. After graduation, Ron joined the Army Reserves and completed basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and attended Military Police School in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Ron was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in 1963.
In 1957 Ron married Faith Brangwynne. Ron was a hard worker and held many jobs to support his young family, starting with the Old Town Canoe Factory, the Old Town Woolen Mill and he retired in 2000 from Diamond International after 43 years. Ron was an avid Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics fan and a collector of political and sports memorabilia.
Ron is survived by his wife of 66 years, Faith; daughter, Deborah Gott and her husband Ed of South Portland, Maine; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Betsy) Follansbee and her husband, Fred, of Scarborough, Maine, Ted Gott and his wife, Nina of Berkley, Michigan and Tom Gott and his wife Anna Fajkowski of New York, New York; four great grandchildren, Charlotte and Baxter Follansbee, and Luca and Lincoln Gott; sisters, Gladys Marie Tardiff, Faye Ann Macomber and her husband Jerry; Deborah Hambrock who was the life partner of their son, Chris and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his son, Christopher; sister, Verly Ann; his mother and father-in-law, Mary and Harold Brangwynne; brothers-in-law, Paul Tardiff, Charles Brangwynne and Ronald Brangwynne.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1PM at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, Maine, with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
