

ALTON—Mary Ann Engstrom, 78, passed away Thursday December 30, 2021 at Northern Light EMMC after a long courageous 8 year battle with lung cancer. She was born July 22, 1943 in Morristown, NJ the daughter of Orville and Mary (Nencheck) Breeden.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, sitting outdoors, watching the Red Sox, and being around family. She retired from Orono commons in 2000.
She is survived by two children Ann-Marie Engstrom Baker and her husband Tim of Alton; Daniel Engstrom and his wife Heidi of Milford; three step children Cindy Charlton and her husband Billy of North Carolina, Rick Engstrom and his wife Diane of Indiana, Aubrey Engstrom and his wife Nancy of Arizona; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Johnson and her husband Fred of Michigan; four special grandchildren Aaron Baker of Alton, Ryan Baker of Leominster, MA Kristen Engstrom of Old Town, DJ Engstrom of Milford; special great grandson Brantley Greenleaf of Old Town; special nephews Jason Johnson of Michigan; many step grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Orville and Mary Breeden, her husband Richard Engstrom, brother Orville Breeden, step daughter Hilda Engstrom, granddaughter Felicia Engstrom.
The family would like to thank Cancer Care of Maine, Brewer, for their care and support of Mary Ann for many years especially Dr. Pascual and Beth Sypher. Special thank you to Northern Light EMMC 3rd Floor nurses and staff for their compassionate care and to Dr. Himan Shumalhorta Pallative care, Dr. Vineel Bhatlapenemarthi, Dr. Harpeetsaluja, and Dr. Adhikari.
Friends may call 3-6PM Thursday January 6, 2022 at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St Old Town where a funeral service will be conducted 11AM Friday January 7, 2022. Spring burial will be at Alton Cemetery.
