OLD TOWN - It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loved one, Judith (Judy) Ann Nickerson. Judy passed peacefully at home on October 1, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Judy was born in Old Town on July 10, 1947 to Hildreth Nickerson and Zelma (Smith) Nickerson.
She grew up in Old Town and graduated from Old Town High School, the class of 1965. Her family owned Nickerson Pine Haven Trailer Park until Judy took over ownership. She was a savvy business woman who took pride in owning the Park. Over the years she formed lasting friendships with the people who lived there. She drove school bus for the Towns of Orono and Veazie. One of her favorite hobbies was to refurbish mobile homes to resell. She enjoyed many years boating on the coast of Maine with her partner Stewart McCormick.
For ten years, she lived in Surry in a home she designed and was built to her specifications. In recent years she spent summers in her camper at Narrows Two Campground in Trenton. Again, she formed lasting friendships with other campers. Judy was a member of the Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Club, where you could find her working in the Toy Barn during the annual auction. Recently she fulfilled her dream of purchasing a food truck and was looking forward to selling hot dogs on Stillwater Avenue. Judy loved decorating for holidays, Halloween and
Christmas were her favorites. Her family and friends will miss those delicious peanut clusters that she made for Christmas. Judy was an independent determined woman who lived life on her own terms.
In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her partner, Stewart McCormick; brother, Edward Nickerson, and son Troy Crawford. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi Crawford
and her partner Chris King; Heidi’s children, Jessica Jackson Dubois, her husband Robert and daughter, Haleigh; Brian Jackson, Jr. and his children Kolton and Brianna-Rae; Daughter, Tracey Crawford Hawes and her daughter, Alexis Hawes and her child, Claire; grandson, TJ Crawford; a special friend, Wayne Jackson who was like family to her; special cousins, Carol Ann Flannigan, Pam Chapman, and Fred Nickerson, and special nephew Scott Pete; close friends
Mary Skaggs, Lea Babin, Susan Myers, Beverly St. Louis, and Lynn Shorette. In her final days, Judy said “I’ve had a great life and we all have to die sometime”.
She was a remarkably strong and courageous woman! Judy was the best mother and meme. There was a very special place in her heart for her great granddaughter Layla Rose Callela. We will carry her memory in our hearts forever.
The family would like to thank all of the Doctors, nurses, and other caregivers who took care of Judy during her illness and in her final days at home.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 10 - 11 am at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St, Old Town, where a service will be held at 11 am, followed by interment at the Lawndale Cemetery, Stillwater Avenue, Old Town.
