John Andrew Arsenault

John was blessed to have married the love of his life, Leota M. Yerxa, in 1969. John and Leota were married for 51 joyful years. They raised three children, Michele, Christopher, and Matthew. He instilled values in them such as hard work, love of family and respect of others.

John graduated from Old Town High School in 1966. He then began a 39-year military career in the Maine Air National Guard and retired in 2006 as Chief Master Sergeant. As a MAINEiac, he was a well-respected member and was honored with several service awards. John was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.

John loved spending time at his hunting camp in Greenfield with his annual crew. Many stories were shared, although deer were spared. He loved his summer camp on Boyd Lake and the late nights around the campfire with family listening to his beloved '50s music. As a proud Dad, he was happiest attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events and teaching his boys how to fish on Sunkhaze stream. In his younger years, John participated in the Old Town men's softball and bowling leagues. John also volunteered his time as a coach for the Old Town Little league. In 1986, he coached the All-Star Team and went on to play in the Eastern Regional Championship in New York. He was so proud of every boy and girl he had the honor of coaching.

In retirement, his passion was golfing with his many friends at Hermon Meadow Golf Course and during his winter months in Florida. His good friend and golfing partner, Brian Treadwell had the honor of sharing in the rewards of his hole in one in 2019.

He was a generous man who loved dedicating his time to family and friends. John had a deep love of politics and never shied away from a spirited debate. He had a genuine honesty in every conversation he held.

John is survived by wife, Leota; his three children: daughter, Michele and husband, Jamie Header, of Falmouth, ME; son, Christopher and wife, Carrie, of Old Town, ME; and son, Matthew and significant other, Nicole Jason, of Old Town, ME. He was lovingly known by his grandchildren as Bampa: Jackson and Wyatt Header, Emilee and Madelyn Arsenault, and Marley Arsenault. He is also survived by a sister, Rosalie and husband, Gary Blenkhorn, and son, Brian, of Cape Elizabeth, ME; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by two sisters, Joan Brissette and Elizabeth Keane.
