ARGYLE -- Dorothy Irene (Hatch) Jordan died Thursday Sept 19th, 2013, at St Joseph Hospital in Bangor, after a short illness. Dorothy had recently become a resident of Engel Place at Ross Manor in Bangor, where she was well cared for.
Dorothy was born in Nov 30, 1933, Thanksgiving Day, in Argyle Maine to Maurice and Marion (Bowley) Hatch. Her father made his living working in the woods, and her mother raised the family. Her youth was filled with school, house chores and her friends in the area, especially the Kennedys. She graduated from Old Town High School in 1950 and after a false start at nursing school in Portland, she moved with her dear friend Avis Roy to Washington DC to work for the Navy department. While living in DC she would meet and marry Richard Thomas Jordan II, a US marine stationed in nearby Quantico VA.
After living both in VA and at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA, she returned with her four children in 1968 to live in Argyle where she remained until June of this year. It was with the help of her mother, sister, brother and all their families that she was able to establish a stable environment for her family. Though she may have wished for more, she found comfort in familiar surroundings. Of the many places she had been, she believed her view of the Penobscot River to be the most beautiful, still.
Dorothy was predeceased by her loving parents, Maurice and Marion Hatch, husband Richard T Jordan, her always supportive siblings Madeline Estelle (Hatch) White and Howard Wesley Hatch, and her son Ronald Allen Jordan, whom she cared for for many years until his death at 29 years old.
She is survived by three sons: her son Richard Jordan of Argyle, who was her primary caretaker for the last two years,; Timothy Jordan and his partner Kay Pitney of Minneapolis MN, and by her son Troy Jordan and his family, Martha Winn and daughters Emma and Robin of South Portland and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 5-8 pm Wednesday Sept 25, 2013 at the Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St. Old Town. A graveside service will be conducted 11AM Thursday at Cedarvale Cemetery, Argyle. Memorial donations in Dorothy’s memory can be made to the Activities Fund at Engel Place, Ross Manor, 758 Broadway, Bangor ME 04401. Notes of condolences may be left at www.birminghamfuneralhome.com
