OLD TOWN- Byron Fred Carter, Jr., 85, died peacefully May 23, 2018. He was born Nov 29, 1932 in West Pembroke, a son of Byron F Sr. and Dorothy (Tinker) Carter.
Byron proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean war. Upon discharge from the service in the fall of 1955, he attended a Halloween dance and caught the eye of Judy, who happened to be dressed up as a sailor for Halloween, and so began a wonderful love story. He was employed at HE Sargent for 22 years as a shop foreman before starting his own business. He and Judy owned and operated Carter’s Diesel for more than 25 years. He enjoyed camping at Reversing Falls, annual trips to Daytona, boating and fishing the Penobscot River, hunting and fishing. Above all else, Byron worked hard and took care of his family.
He is survived by four children Colleen Carter and Cathy Carver of Bangor, Kenneth Carter and his wife Rita of Arkansas, Fred Carter of Tennessee, Karri Nodal and her husband Carlos of Florida; 10 grandchildren and four great grand children; sister Mary Haynes of Pembroke, brother Robert Carter and his wife Martha of NH; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Judy on May 27, 2002, brother Chet Carter and sister Barbara Dudley.
