Ava Marie Shina, 58, of Old Town, ME, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 with her loving daughters by her side after fighting a long battle with lung cancer and other various health complications. She was born on December 13, 1961 in Bangor, ME, the daughter of Vaughn H. Wickett Jr and Alice Joan (Batchelder) Wickett.
Ava worked many jobs throughout her life, being a CNA in her youth and mainly focusing her efforts in the food industry during her later years. She was a customer favorite for many years at Birmingham's Family Market in Old Town, and prior to that at Nutter's Market in West Enfield.
She is survived by her daughters, Jessica Ann Shina of Old Town and Heather Marie (Shina) Thibeault and her husband Matt of Milford; three beloved grandbabies, Ryleigh Mae Shina of Old Town, Nicholas David and Rebecca Raine Thibeault of Milford; brother Gregg Wickett and his wife, Deborah of Mattawamkeag; a special nephew Joshua Caleb Wickett of Knox; an exceptional stepmother and close confidant, Lorraine A (Crosby) Wickett of Gainesville, FL; stepsister Rochelle A. (Crosby) Livoni and her husband, Rick of Williston, FL; stepbrothers Daniel Crosby of Lincoln, Joseph Crosby and his wife, Liliana of Ocala, FL and Steven Crosby of Colorado; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ava also found a lifelong best friendship in Brenda (Soucier) Currie of Enfield.
Funeral services are being arranged by Birmingham's Funeral Home, 438 Main St, Old Town, ME. Viewing hours will be Thursday, January 30, from 3-6 P.M. Her service will be officiated by Pastor Mark W. York of Mattawamkeag Church of God on Friday, January 31 at 2 P.M. There will be a potluck reception immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, cards and donations are greatly appreciated and welcomed during this difficult time, or you can give directly through her daughters' Facebook Fundraiser Page.
The family would like to acknowledge the special care she has been given recently through the Northern Light Hospice Service, especially her personal nurse Janis, who she respected whole-heartedly. We appreciate all of the support and care our mother was given through the last days of her life.
