Stanley Klim, 95 passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. Stanley (also known as Whitey and Gramp to some) was born in Bridgeport CT to Frank and Stella (Karbowiak )Klimaszewski on January 2, 1919.The family later moved to Deep River where he attended Deep River High School. He married Helen Zanelli on July 15, 1941 and they shared many happy hours camping and fishing at the Charlestown Breachway in R.I until her passing in 1991. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a harbormaster in Dartmouth England and upon his return to the states, built a home and settled in Chester for the next 59 years before moving to Waterford, where he lived for 13 years. He was very knowledgeable in growing vegetables and treating any ailment with herbs and vitamins.
He was an excellent provider and had a passion for his trade as a tool and die maker. He still longed to be working in the field long into his eighties, but the computer had replaced hand drawn blueprints and hand tooled parts. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Pratt of Deep River, grandchildren Carol Anne and husband Jim Hull of Old Saybrook, Wanda Bersing and significant other ,Geoff Baron of Niantic, Alan and wife Jane Patterson of Burlington CT, great grandchildren Sarah Passera and husband Jon of Westbrook, Jason Hull and fiancé Kelly Lewis of Old Saybrook, Jessica Bersing, Niantic, Sean and wife Ashley Bersing of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Todd Spaulding, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Stephanie Madden, RI, and his sister, Helen Scott of Port Charlotte FL as well as 5 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his dear friend Mary Vlaun of Waterford . He is predeceased by his infant son Alan, his parents, Frank and Stella Klimaszewski and his two brothers John and Walter Klimaszewski. “Gramp” was the pillar of our family and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Swan Funeral Home at 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014 with a service commencing at 2pm. Interment will be immediately following at Fountain Hill Cemetery 57 High Street, Deep River.
