Robert (Bob or Bobby) Charles Braddock of New Haven, age 63 years, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2023 in hospice after his brave 2-year-long battle against cancer. He was born in New Rochelle, New York on November 17, 1959 and was the oldest son of Robert and Elizabeth Braddock. He was a loving husband to Debra Braddock and the proud father of two sons, Ethan and Aiden Braddock.
Bobby will always be remembered by his warm, kind eyes, his ready and contagious grin, and his hilarious sense of humor. He lived life with a persistent curiosity and appetite to learn. He graduated from college with a BA in English and decided he wasn't done with school, opting to go to law school. When he later decided that litigation wasn't the way he wanted to go, he entered the business world as a banker and soon began to pursue business courses toward a Masters, all while working full-time.
As an example of his insatiable pursuit of new knowledge, even while receiving radiation and chemotherapy to treat his cancer, he was always teaching himself something new, including mastering Latin. Even as a kid, Bobby’s inquiring mind motivated him to master new skills, such as when he taught himself to play guitar. Always having a love and sheer talent for music, Bobby's passion for singing started early as a member of St. Mary’s Little Singers in Norwalk, Connecticut. His family was so proud when he travelled to Germany to showcase his gifted voice as a young boy. When he was older, he performed in several bands, including TempersRise and Radiomen, as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He and his band mates, including his longtime friend, Russ Berger, had a following at local venues and cut a CD together with their own music.
Bobby’s dynamic imagination and intellect inspired so many passions. He authored a book of fiction as well as a screenplay, was a talented painter, enjoyed cooking delicious meals, and constantly read about multiple subjects. He loved learning about American history and was a master at Trivial Pursuit. Bobby last worked at First County Bank's headquarters in Stamford, CT, where he was promoted to serve as Vice President, Deputy Chief Credit Officer, and was greatly respected by everyone who had the pleasure to work with him.
Bobby’s love for his family, his enthusiasm for learning something new every day, his passion for life, and his heartfelt laughter are already dearly missed. Yet we take comfort in knowing that Bobby is at peace now and watching over us until we can all be joined together again.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra; his two sons, Ethan and Aiden; and his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Susan and Dave Parille, Stephen and Ila Braddock, Elizabeth (Lisa) and Kevin McQueen, and Tom and Jackie Braddock. He is also survived by his eight nieces and nephews; his in-laws, including Peter, Joyce, and Ann-Dee Levine; and multiple loving friends.
We will be celebrating Bobby's life with a service on Tuesday, October 31 at 10:30 AM at Swan's Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, followed by a brief graveside service at Cypress Cemetery at 100 College Street, Old Saybrook. Afterwards, we invite you to join us to further celebrate Bobby's life at the residence of Peter and Joyce Levine at 10 Cedar Lane, Old Saybrook. In addition, we will be having a full mass in Bobby's honor on Sunday, November 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 5 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven, at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Robert C. Braddock to the Connecticut Hospice Branford.
