Celebration of Life will be 12:00 pm, Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery, Middletown, CT with Minister Darius Dudzik of St. Bridget’s of Kildare, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Swan Funeral Home. Those attending the cemetery service are invited to attend a memorial gathering following the service at the ceremony. The location for the memorial gathering is the American Legion Post 156 in Moodus, CT.
Peter was born Middletown, Ct to Albin & Sophie Szpakowski Novak on April 18, 1943. He attended Vinal Technical School in Middletown, CT. He married Trudy (Rowland) Novak on April 16, 1966 in Middletown. He worked as a Machinist at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, Middletown for 33 years. He served in the Army National Guard. Peter was a member of American Legion Post 156 and a parishioner St Bridget’s of Kildare.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents Albin and Sophie, as well as his brothers Albin Novak Jr and Thomas Novak.
Peter is survived by spouse Trudy (Rowland) Novak, daughter Laurie Novak and her husband Allen Miller. Grandchildren Scott Winakor and his wife Melissa, Erica (Winakor) Bowen and her husband Michael, Cheryl Winakor and her fiancée Andy Janz, Rachael Winakor, Rachel Miller, and Erika Miller. Great grandchildren Kynleigh Winakor, Maycee Winakor, and Mila Bowen.
Peter was an active member of the American Legion Post 156 in Moodus, CT and was an avid member working the bingo nights at the Legion hall.
He loved to attend the youth sports activities of his grandchildren who participated in youth football / cheerleading in Montville, CT and other East Haddam middle school and high school sports events where his grandchildren attended school. Peter was known at East Haddam basketball and volleyball events as “Cheer Papa”.
After retiring from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Peter worked at Mohegan Sun Casino as a Security Officer. He loved to attend boxing matches at the casino as well as watching them on television at home. He also loved auto racing, especially the local stock car racetrack in Waterford, CT. Peter was not one to sit still – he always had to be busy working out in the yard, or on various projects around the house. He also loved building model airplanes and doing puzzles in his spare time.
Peter and Trudy loved to travel to various vacation destinations such as Europe, Egypt, Alaska, and also enjoyed multiple trips to Disney World in Florida with his daughter and grandchildren.
And one thing he will also be remembered for…his infectious laugh…those who know, know.
