US Army Sgt. M. James Shover was a decorated Vietnam War veteran (1966-1969). Jim served in the Long Range Reconnaissance patrol of the 2nd brigade, 4th infantry Division/ 75th ranger regiment from 1966 to 1967.
As an Artist he received great pleasure painting along with his many other talents such as jewelry making and stained glass. In addition, he wrote stories and poems of his time in Vietnam and some of which were published. He loved growing up in Old Saybrook and traveling out west.
Jim was a loving son and brother who was always generous with family and friends. Jim is survived by his mother Evelyn Shover, 97, of Westbrook, CT, sisters Lorraine "Gail" Allen of East Hampton, CT and Marilyn Parsons of Delmar, MD, nieces Michelle McLain-Cameron, Jessica-McLain Danks, Coral Hatfield, and Yvette Renee Lee, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Merrill J. Shover Sr..
Calling hours will be held at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook on Friday Dec 28th from 5pm to 7 pm.
A private family memorial will take place in Westmore, VT. On July 13th.
