She graduated from North Haven High School and received her B.A. from Albertus Magnus College. After having two children with her first husband, Charles A. Possidente, she attended Adelphi University where she received a Masters Degree in Social Work.
Ms. Ring worked at Connecticut Mental Health Center as a Psychiatric Social Worker for over 25 years, retiring in 2011.
After retirement, she was active with the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook. Kathy taught English with the local ESL program and volunteered at the local soup kitchen. She enjoyed reading and was part of a local book club. Kathy loved Mother Nature and supported local and International environmental groups such as the Nature Conservancy, the Sierra Club, and the Saybrook Land and Trust. A lover of animals, she adopted rescue cats and dogs and contributed to the CT Humane Society. She was an active advocate for Women’s rights and supported the National Organization for Women and Planned Parenthood. Lastly, Kathryn was a strong supporter of LGBTQ rights.
She loved to travel, walk in the local woods and on the beach, and to knit. Most of all, Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family.

Two sons, Jonathan and his husband Robert Megargee of Los Angeles, CA, and Damian and his partner Agustin Cruz of Los Angeles, CA. Her brother, David Van Buren of North Branford, and sister, Gretchen Van Buren and her husband, John Bouzoun, of Orford, NH.
A Memorial Celebration will begin at Noon until 3:00 PM at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook, CT on Thursday February 13th. Burial will be private at a cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to: The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center and the American Cancer Society.
