Evelyn Budney Sokolowski, 92, of Ivoryton, and formerly of Old Saybrook, passed sway at Connecticut Hospice in Branford on Sunday, February 12th, with her daughter Trudy holding her hand. She was born on June 9, 1924, in Ivoryton, the daughter of Lillian and Louis Budney. She leaves behind her daughter Trudy Sokolowski-Holliday of Killingworth; the joys of her life, grandsons Aaron Holliday of Salem and Eric Holliday, US Army, and his wife Stephanie, of Lyme; great grandson Cooper Axel Holliday of Lyme; nieces and nephews Trudy and Don Watson, Cynthia and Chester Perry, Dana and Pauline Budney, Robert and Teresa Budney, Bud and Leonard Budney. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Stephen Sokolowski, and her brothers Robert Budney, Sr., and Louis Budney. She retired from the US Postal Service where she worked for 23 years, and she also worked at Uarco for 11 years, and Pratt Read. Evelyn loved cats, just like her mother and daughter, and at one point in her life, they had 32 cats. She also roller skated, and well too. Her favorite colors were yellow and pink. A very special thanks to Connecticut Hospice nurses and staff for their excellent care.
Calling hours will be held on Monday February 20th from 5-7pm at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 21st at 11am at the funeral home. A calling hour will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, from 10-11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Centerbrook Cemetery, Centerbrook, CT.
