

Dorthe was born September 4, 1935 in Vejle, Denmark then moved during World War II with her parents to Alingsås, Sweden. She attended the University of Heidelberg and later worked as a translator in Germany, Austria, and Sweden before moving to the United States.
A resident of Old Saybrook since 1969, Dorthe enjoyed cooking, gardening, and tennis at the Old Saybrook Racquet Club. She was an avid reader (a regular at the Acton Public Library) and an active member of her Swedish Ladies’ group. In later years, she enjoyed her Wednesday Bridge game at the Saybrook Point Pavilion.
Dorthe is survived by her husband of fifty years, James A. Martin, her daughter and son-in-law Christina and Tim, her granddaughter Mathilda, and cousins in Denmark and Germany.
A reception will be held in Dorthe’s honor Saturday March 31, 2012 from 2pm-4pm at the Saybrook Point Pavilion (150 College Street, Old Saybrook).
