Born the only son of Donald and Lois Harger, in New Haven, CT, on September 28, 1940. Don attended local schools and graduated from Hamden High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Lake Champlain CVS-39 from 1959 to 1961.
After being honorably discharged, Don married the love of his life Chickie Asarisi on September 28, 1963 in Hamden, CT.
Don was a member of IUEC Local 91 and served in the elevator trade for 37 years. He then enjoyed 22 years of retirement.
Don was very active in the Westbrook community serving on the Westbrook Police Advisory Board, Emergency Management, The Senior Center, Christmas Tree Lighting Committee and the Conservation Commission Boating Division.
A member of the Westbrook Elks, Don served as a trustee for 5 years. He was the member in charge for the Elks Bingo for 10 years. He was also an active member of Saint Mark’s Church.
Don is survived by his loving wife Chickie, son, Donald L Harger III (Kristen) of North Haven, daughter, Danielle Graham and her husband Fredy Graham of Westbrook. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Don is also survived by 3 sisters, Carol Senerchia of Northford, Jackie Hurlburt of Cheshire and Geri Rosenberg and her husband Paul of North Branford.
He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and dear friends that he considered his extended family.
Don was predeceased by his parents and Sister, Edna Winter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday September 20, 2023 at Saint Mark’s Church, 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook at 10AM.
