Chuck was born on October 12, 1963, in Hartford, CT. He lived his entire life happily in his beloved town of Old Saybrook. Chuck was a 1982 graduate of Old Saybrook Senior High School. He later attended Porter & Chester Institute focusing on Automotive and Marine Mechanics. He is survived by his devoted brother Samuel Barnes, his loving sister Nan Murphy and her husband Dennis, as well as his adoring nieces and nephews, Megan, Matthew, Jonathan and Catherine. Chuck was predeceased by his parents, James and Barbara Barnes, longtime residents of Old Saybrook.
Chuck had a heart of gold and was a wonderful friend to all. He loved collecting war mementos and visiting local restaurants. He enjoyed learning about the World Wars, finding military treasures that he could bring home and participating in many local parades. Chuck was a successful boat mechanic by trade and worked many years at Yacht Distributors Marina in Old Saybrook. He then continued to work his own landscaping and snow plowing business for many successful years. Chuck enjoyed fishing, trapping and hunting but most of all he enjoyed hanging out with his close friends. Chuck was a car and truck enthusiast and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Chuck truly was a gift of a person to know. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him in all elements of his life.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation for the exceptional care he received by the nurses and doctors on the Critical Care Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational Church of Old Saybrook, 366 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT, followed by a reception at Clark Memorial Field, 210 Elm Street, Old Saybrook, CT, to celebrate Chuck’s life.
