He was born on May 12, 1952, in Norwalk CT, the son of the late Harold and Dorothy Lynch Lomas. Tom graduated from Staples High School in Westport and the University of New Hampshire where he received his BS in Forestry in 1971. Because of his love of the unspoiled natural beauty of lower CT River Valley, Tom decided to settle here and begin his career as an arborist. A gifted athlete, accomplished sportsman and bush pilot, he lived a life full of great adventure. He shared his great love of Alaska, fly fishing, bow hunting, trapping, golfing and travel with his wife, sons, family and friends. Widely traveled, Tom also fished, hunted and golfed throughout Ireland, New Zealand, Chile, and Argentina. He lived, worked and embraced each and every day.
Tom was a CT licensed registered Forester, a member of the Connecticut Tree Protective Assoc., a 35 year member of Black Hall Club, The Junior-Senior Golfing Society of CT, the National Trappers Assoc. and the Norwich Adult Hockey League. He was the owner and operator of Lomas Tree Service, LLC serving the shoreline community for over 35 years.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elizabeth McIntyre Lomas; his beloved sons Corey James Lomas of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Henry Thomas Lomas of Lyme; his brothers Robert Lomas and his wife Hope of Chagrin Falls, OH, and William Lomas and his wife Gwendolyn of Weston, CT; his stepmother Anita Lomas of New Castle, NH; his mother in-law Nancy O. McIntyre of West Hartford, CT; his sister in laws Marcy Klattenberg and her husband Ron of Middletown, and Laura McIntyre of Hebron; nieces and nephews Derek and his wife Julika Lomas and their son Milo, Patti Lee Lomas, William Lomas, Nicoline Lomas, Anneliese Lomas, Sara Lowe, Michael Klattenberg, Erin and Amanda Siegal. He was predeceased by his brother James Lomas.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 1 pm at St Ann's Episcopal Church, 82 Shore Road Old Lyme. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 pm at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church.
