Mark was born on July 8, 1960, in New Haven, the son of William and Marilyn Whelan.
He was a communicant of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Old Lyme since moving there in 1999. Mark graduated from the University of New Haven and worked in finance for multiple divisions of United Technologies, most proudly on the Blackhawk helicopter program. Mark was an avid New York Giants fan and also enjoyed rooting for the New York Yankees. Having volunteered for the Shoreline Food Pantry for a number of years, Mark enjoyed helping people.
Mark is survived by his wife Monica (Provost); his daughter Michelle Cannamela and her husband Vincent of Cranston, RI, and son Patrick Whelan of Seattle, WA; his siblings William Whelan of San Francisco, CA, Susan Temple and her husband Charlie of Hyannis, MA, Douglas Whelan and his wife Lisa of Hudson, NH, and Monica Dornfeld and her husband David of Branford, CT, and a niece and three nephews.
A Calling hour will be held on Friday, December 27th from 9:30am-10:30am at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln., Old Lyme. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 27th at 11am at Christ the King Church, McCurdy Rd., Old Lyme. Burial at St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford will be held at a later date that will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut (BIAC), the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) or Gaylord Hospital.
