Donald Arthur Quigley died peacefully on October 19, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. Don was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 15, 1943, to parents Thomas Arthur and Rebecca Hunsicker. With his father a Major in the United States Army, Don’s childhood was spent in many cities across the US, Japan, and finally Poitiers, France where he graduated from high school. Moving back to the states after graduation, the family settled in Cohasset, MA. Don graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Engineering from Northeastern University, and would go on to earn a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from The University of Connecticut.
In September of 1968, Don married Charlotte Cavanagh, and they settled in Old Lyme, Connecticut. It was here that they had their three children, Derek, Colleen and Thomas. During this time, Don self-built their beautiful family home on Jean Drive. Don worked as an electrical engineer for the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT. He then started his own business, QTECH, in which he designed and built computer systems for schools and libraries.
Don had a love and an eye for photography, and could frequently be seen with his camera around his neck. He was an avid rower, and a member of the Lyme/Old Lyme Rowing Association, also serving on the board. Don was a very active member in The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, where he served as both a Treasurer and a Deacon. Don was a friend to many, and beloved by all who knew him. He had a bright smile and an infectious laugh that would light up any room he was in. He will be remembered most for his genuine kindness, gracious spirit, and generous nature. Don was his happiest when with his wife, children and grandchildren, and watching them do the things they love. He would get a spark in his eye when he was with his favorite people that showed there was nothing in the world more important to him.
Don is survived by Charlotte, his wife of 54 years. He is also survived by his three children, Derek (Dana), Colleen, and Tom (Jessica), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Liam, Nora, Scarlett and Celeste. He is survived by his brother Richard (Linda), his Sister-In-Law Jeanne, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Drew.
A private burial service for the family will be held on Friday, October 28, at 10:30 am, at The Duck River Cemetery in Old Lyme. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at 11am, at The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 4 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT.
Memorial contributions may be made to The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme.
