Deanie Ferrell, of Old Hickory, TN, went home peacefully, surrounded by family, to be with her Savior and Lord on Friday, September 22, 2023. She was born in Macon County, TN on November 24,1938 to Virgil Lloyd and Gracie Lee Meador, who preceded her in death. She grew up in Madison, TN. After attending Madison High School, she married her sweetheart, Claude Ferrell. They enjoyed spending time at the beach and in the mountains, as well as camping and water skiing with family and friends.
Deanie was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Old Hickory, TN for over 60 years. Through the years, she enjoyed teaching children and studying God’s Word with other ladies. Deanie worked for the State of Tennessee as a microfilm operator in the late 1950s and enjoyed learning about the history of Tennessee. She was a homemaker after Teresa and Lee were born. She also worked as a Patrol Mother for Metro at Andrew Jackson Elementary when her children attended school there. After her children were grown, she enjoyed traveling and seeing the world with family and friends. She loved people! She was a loving wife, a caring Mother, and a fun, fun Nana!
Deanie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Claude Lee Ferrell, Jr.; her in-laws, Claude Lee Ferrell, Sr. and Pauline Ruth Ferrell; brothers Ray Meador (Lena Mai), James Meador (Maria); and sister, Kathleen Adams (Wallace); brothers in-law, Bill Ferrell, Paul Ferrell, and Henry Beard. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Slay (Terry); son, Lee Ferrell (Adela); and grandchildren, Anna Barthel (Clint), Andrew Slay (Ashley), Chloe and Lindsey Ferrell; great-grandchildren, Graysen and Emersyn Slay and Lydia and Caleb Barthel; sisters-in-law, Laura Beard, and Phyllis Ferrell, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the nurses and nurse assistants in Memory Care and Skilled Nursing at NHC Place Sumner in Gallatin, TN for the loving care they provided the past nine months. They were amazing! Also, thank you to Alive Hospice for the guidance and special care they provided the last week of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Temple Baptist Church, Old Hickory, TN, or Alive Hospice, Nashville, TN.
Visitation will be Monday, September 25th for family from 4pm - 5pm and public visitation will be from 5pm - 7pm, and on Tuesday, September 26 from 10am - 11:30am. A Celebration of Life will begin Tuesday at 11:30am in the Tulip Grove Room at the funeral home. Following the service, Deanie will be laid to rest in the Garden of the Apostles at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
