Mr. Samuel Joseph Wall, age 86, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on January 31, 2024. Sam was born April 15, 1937 in Etowah, Tennessee to Clarence and Bina Wall. He spent his childhood growing up in Etowah. In 1957 he met and married Josephine “Jo” Wiley and together they moved to Chattanooga, TN where Sam worked for the Tennessee Highway Department. Sam was the choir director at the Hamill Road Baptist Church in Chattanooga and together he and Jo were members of “The 11th Hour” gospel group. He loved to sing and listen to gospel music. In 1974, Sam and his family moved to Nashville, TN. He was in the asphalt paving business for over 50 years and paved the way for Nashville to be the city it is today.
Sam was the most loving husband, father and grandfather. He was loyal to many friends and loved to spend time traveling with them. His legacy will continue through his children and grandchildren.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Bina Wall, and siblings Lonas “Cuckle” Wall, Clara Caruthers, and Carless Wall.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Josephine “Jo” Wall, daughters, Cheryl (Jimmy) Wong, and Tenae (Kenny) Blackburn, sister Alta (John) Gambill, Grandchildren Heather (Jamie) West, Jeremy (Bree) Wong, Jason (Jessica) Blackburn, and Autumn (Brett) Ramsey; 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday February 5, 2024 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Hermitage Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute LN, Old Hickory, TN and again on Tuesday February 6th from 11:00 -1:00 PM. The celebration of Life service will begin at 1:00 PM in the Chapel followed by interment in the Garden of Memories.
