Sam is preceded in death by his father, Pastor Samuel H. McCrary; mother, Mamie Elizabeth (Marsh) McCrary; and brother, Donald Ray McCrary, Sr.
Samuel Henry McCrary, Jr. was born on March 4, 1946 to Pastor Samuel H. McCrary and Mamie Elizabeth (Marsh) McCrary in Nashville, Tennessee. He was baptized at an early age at Fairfield Baptist Church. He later re-affirmed his faith at St. Mark’s Missionary Baptist Church, where he also started singing at an early age.
Sam attended Cameron High School where he played football. He graduated in 1964. Sam attended college at Tennessee State University where he also played football. He later began his employment at Ford Glass Plant, where he retired after thirty-five years. While working at Ford Glass Plant, Sam was also singing with his brother, Donald Ray's band, "City Streets".
Sam was called home on January 27, 2022 and leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Sylvia (Whittenberg) McCrary; sons Quentin McCrary (Summer), Vincent McCrary (Jaime), Samuel McCrary, III (Lesa), Marcus McCrary, Chris McCrary (TJ), Ziemyah McCrary; and daughter, Angie McCrary, all of Nashville, Tennessee; sisters Ann McCrary, Deborah McCray (Serious), Regina McCrary (Dave), Alfreda McCrary Lee (Narcisco); brothers Alan McCrary and Ricky McCrary. Sam also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends for Samuel on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 4pm – 8pm and on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 10am – 12pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be at 12pm in the Tulip Grove Room of the funeral home. Interment will follow immediately in the Garden of Andrew at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
