Robert “Bob” J Cooke, 86, of Old Hickory, TN passed away Sunday February 25, 2024. Robert was born in Old Hickory, TN, on November 22, 1937 to Jesse and Gladys Cooke. Robert spent his life growing up and living in Old Hickory.
Bob graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with both his B.S. and M.Ed degrees. He received his ED.S degree from the University of Georgia. Bob worked for many years as a teacher and guidance counselor before working for the State of Tennessee as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. He used the programs of Park Center, New Horizons, Goodwill Industries and Mercury Court to help his clients. He is proud that many of his clients went on to college to receive their education.
Bob served 6 ½ years in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of the Rivergate Church of Christ. He loved his German Sheperd dogs and being with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Jesse Watson Cooke, mother Gladys Ferrell Cooke, and brother Ethan Lewis Cooke. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Jane Simmons Cooke, daughter Treva Cooke Rawlins, and a grandson Trevor Michael Rawlins, nephew Ethan L Cooke and niece Tammy Cooke Hackett.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Hermitage Funeral Home, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN from 4:00 – 7:00pm Thursday February 29 and again Friday from 10:00am until time of service. The Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00am in the Tulip Grove Chapel of the funeral home.
