Noel’s parents moved to the U.S. from Prince Edward Island, Canada. As a young boy he had many part time jobs to help support his family. Later he helped his father with carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. When he was nineteen he joined the U. S. Army Air Corps, which later became the U.S. Air Force. During his time in the Air Force, he was an Intelligence Officer, Bombardier, Radar Operator, Flight Navigator, and Instructor. Most of the time he used the stars at night for navigation. Flying solely with the use of instrument panels had not yet been developed. Noel flew missions to the North and South Poles and around the world. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Noel received a citation and commendation medal for the development of techniques and procedures for precision airborne radar directed approaches. He was the Military Air Transport Service (MATS) Liaison Officer of Air Force Systems Command for prototyping and evaluation of the C-124 Aircraft. We are proud of and thank Noel who retired as an Air Force Major. He was awarded many medals, ribbons and commendations during his twenty-seven years of service.
Noel loved music, dancing, games and repair projects. He entertained family and friends playing the guitar, piano (boogie woogie), and accordian. He loved good food and conversations, keeping busy helping others and enjoying life. He loved God, his family, his country and had lived a great life. He will be dearly missed.
A private family graveside service will be held in South Carolina where Noel will be buried with his wife. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Alzheimers Association or Hospice. Special thanks to the health care heroes at Carrick Glen Senior Living Memory Care and Avalon Hospice.
