Nancy was born in Nashville, TN on December 16, 1934 to Sterling and Margaret Mitchell. Her fondest childhood memories were visiting with cousins, Sunday afternoons with teenage girlfriends, birthday suppers, downtown shopping with her mother, and driving with her favorite Uncle Bibbie who let her get behind the wheel of his car before she was old enough.
She graduated from Donelson High School, George Peabody College for Teachers with a B.S. in Education, and Memphis State University with a M.A. in Special Ed. Her earliest ambition was to be a teacher and she taught elementary school for 27 years in Tennessee, Florida, and Texas. One of her proudest career accomplishments was receiving notes of thanks from parents and students.
Nancy met her beloved husband, Huddy, while attending Donelson HS. They married on June 2, 1956 and enjoyed many years of happiness together as they raised their four kids in Tennessee, Florida, and Texas, finally landing in Tennessee again for the remainder of their adult lives.
Her proudest moments with her family were the birth of her four children, the birth of her grandchildren, Christmas memories, the day that her husband, Huddy, became a cabinet member in the Tennessee State Government under Governor Ned McWhorter, as well as many family beach trips.
At various times in her life, Nancy enjoyed gardening, reading, playing games, writing, knitting, collecting meaningful sayings of others, cooking and baking. Other favorite things were caring friends, family gatherings, traditional church, Bible study/discussion, pedicures, and house plants.
