Mary Lee (Hickerson) Thompson, 78 of Hermitage, passed away Saturday December 9, 2023. Mary was born in Nashville, TN on May 25, 1945 to Otis and Alexine Hickerson. Mary spent her school years in Nashville and graduated from Howard High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard H. Thompson IV and they were married for 56 years.
Mary was a pre-K teacher’s assistant with the Metro Nashville Public School System for many years. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings for birthdays, holidays and other special occasions. Sunday dinner was always at Mama’s house, and her door was always open to all family & friends. Mary was the queen of cruises and enjoyed her many travels with Richard over the years. Mary was a member of the Stones River Women’s club, serving over 10 years with charity events, community projects and decorating the Two Rivers Mansion for special gatherings. Mary was an active member of the Green Street Church of Christ and Donelson Church of Christ. Mary volunteered with the Donelson Church of Christ Benevolence House & donated her time and energy with the quilting group. Mary loved her family and her grandchildren, always attending their school events and sporting competitions. Her love and support extended to her nieces, great nieces and nephew and her great-great niece & nephews as well as many friends that were counted as family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Alexine Hickerson, sisters Otisine LaBar & Deborah Hickerson, brother Charlie Hickerson, son in law Cary Crunk and her loving husband of 56 years Richard H Thompson, IV.
Mary is survived by her daughters: Jennifer (Jerry) Fraley, Melissa Crunk and Elizabeth Thompson. Grandchildren: Catherine Crunk and Jordan Fraley and many nieces, great nieces and nephew and great-great niece and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday December 12, 2023 from 3:00 – 8:00PM at the Hermitage Funeral Home and again on Wednesday December 13, 2023 from 10:00-12:00 Noon. The celebration of Life service will begin at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of Hermitage Funeral Home. Interment to follow at the Hermitage Memorial Gardens
