Daughter of Helen Martin Cavender and Everett Taylor Cavender, Helen had a rich and full life. As the oldest daughter, she helped raise and nurture six younger siblings—Everett Jr., Celestine, Jerry, Kay, Milton, and Elaine--and later she brought up her own three children: Beth, J.C. Jr., and Phillip. Her progeny extends through four subsequent generations with the recent birth of two great-great grandchildren. Born in Nashville and a life-long resident of the area, Helen graduated from North High School and went on to work in a variety of fields, including mental health care, property management, and, lastly, Tennessee Corrections.
Through life’s ups and downs, she was strong and resilient, even during the last few years when her health was in decline. Helen will be remembered for her beaming smile, delicious home cooking, wonderful family stories, and compassionate oversight of those incarcerated. Friends and family will forever hold her close in their hearts.
