Lester Wilson Stewart Jr., age 86, of Old Hickory, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Wilson was born on September 19, 1938 in Old Hickory, TN to his parents "Boots" Stewart and Cloa Clemons Stewart who precede him in death.
Wilson grew up in Dupontonia and graduated from DuPont High School in 1956. He joined the Army Reserves to satisfy his military obligation and two days after graduation, he boarded a train to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for six months of active duty. On returning, he attended Vanderbilt University and worked part time at General Shoe Corporation in their data processing billing section to help pay his school expenses. He left Vanderbilt in 1958 to work full time at AVCO. Plans were to save money and return to Vanderbilt, but that didn't happen. He was looking to the future and started his professional career.
Over the next 60 plus years, Wilson worked in data processing and information systems for a number of companies until he left his last job in 1997 to spend much of his time as an independent consultant installing PC hardware and software, and designing and supporting websites. He traveled most of the time during his last 10 years of employment before he "retired" to stay at home.
In 2000, they moved back to Old Hickory where Wilson continued working from his office at home. Besides supporting his client's computers and software, and a number of websites, including the DuPont High School Alumni Association's site, he was treasurer of the Alumni Association, the Old Hickory Bunch, and the Veterans Memorial Park Committee of Old Hickory. Also, Wilson was instrumental in establishing the Alumni Room at DuPont-Hadley Middle School.
Wilson was preceded in death by his parents. "Boots" Stewart and Cloa Clemons Stewart; three sons by a previous marriage, Randy (Lisa) Kelly, and Brian (Andrea); granddaughters, Ruthie and Mary Margaret; and grandsons, Will, Harry and Jack.
