John Whitney Evans, III age 72 of Hermitage, TN died on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, surrounded by family and friends. He was born November 23, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated High School from Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and participated in Civil War Reenactments. He attended the Southern Academy of Clinical Technology and received a medical technology certificate in 1961. While attending Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, working in the laboratory at Baptist Hospital in Nashville and serving his country in the Air National Guard, he made several lifelong friends. After graduating from MTSU with a Bachelors of Science in 1966, he continued his education, receiving his Master’s Degree of Arts in 1967. That same year, he began his career as an agent for Farm Bureau in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee where he built a very successful, award winning insurance agency. He served as President of the Civitan Club and was an active member of that community and was a third degree mason. He retired in 1995. He was an avid outdoorsman and inherited the love of animals from his Father, a Veterinarian. He enjoyed spending time riding horses, and was caring for his favorite horse, General Lee, the week before his death. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Whitney Evans Jr., and his daughter, Dr. Amy Adele Evans Foster. He is survived by his wife, Carole Virginia Peek Evans, mother, Frances Mary Van De Pol Evans, daughter, Jeanie Whitney Evans and her mother Dinah Petree, grandson, Evan Phenevongsa; stepdaughter, Virginia “Ginny” Lynn (Marc) Holmberg and son-in-law T. Allen Pannell, Jr. Visitation Sunday, March 8, 2015 4 until 8pm and 11 am till time of service on Monday. Funeral Service Monday, March 9, 2015 1pm in the Hermitage Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Cross officiating. Interment to follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with General Lee and grandson Evan leading procession. Family and friends will service as active pallbearers.
