James E. “Papa Jim” Fowler, Born June 20, 1924 in Lebanon, TN to the late Fred and Henrietta Fowler, Mr. Fowler passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016. Also preceded in death by his first wife, “The love of his life”, Mary Jane; his second wife, Elaine; daughter, Peggy Fowler; daughter-in-law, Thelma Fowler; grandson, Todd Fowler; brothers, Frank, Terry and Kenneth; sisters, Dorris and Faye;. Survived by his son, Gus (Sylvia) Fowler; grandchildren, Amy (Kyle) Tabb, Ashley (Jason) Leath and Chase (Carrie) Fowler; six great grandchildren and brother, Dan Fowler. At the age of 16 he entered the U.S. Marine Corp, serving in WW II. After 5 years of service, Mr. Fowler returned home to finish high school and attend college where he received his Law Degree from Cumberland University. In 1950, he was sworn in as a Federal Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division. Over the course of his career, he went on countless illegal moonshine and illegal gun raids. After his retirement with the ATF, he went to work for Metro Nashville Government as a Probation Officer. Mr. Fowler will truly be remembered for his kindness, work ethic and love of life and family. He was a Charter Member of Tulip Grove Baptist Church and a member of Al Menah Shriners. He was “the best father a son could ever have”. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 1 pm Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Hermitage Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Dearth officiating.
