Ernie Miller was born April 6, 1932 in Topeka, Indiana to John and Sylvia Miller. He had 8 brothers and sisters and was raised in the Amish tradition. He discovered his love of singing with his family singing hymns. At 19 years of age, he opened for Hank Williams at a local show near his hometown of Shipshewana, Indiana. That opened the door to his desire to pursue music as his career. In December of 1953, he married Vesta (Dusty) Kearns in Delta, Colorado. They moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1968, and he worked as a musician and singer - he played the Grand Ole Opry and toured with Stonewall Jackson, Billy Walker and Little Jimmy Dickens, playing bass guitar and fronting the band. Music took him around the world.
He and Dusty were members of the Hermitage United Methodist Church for 40 years. He was involved in the choir and praise band, also volunteering with Room at the Inn. He loved horses, painting and playing golf. But first and foremost, he loved his family. He loved people - he never knew a stranger. Ernie also loved to laugh and passed on his silly sense of humor to his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends - they will continue to feel his presence daily in their lives.
Ernie is survived by his children - Gene Miller and wife Susan, Kevin Miller and Michelle Miller. Also his grandsons - Aaron Miller, Ryan Miller, Levi Miller and Dakota Miller.
