Edward Joseph Burns Sr., 91 of Hermitage, passed away August 5, 2015. He joined the United States Navy and served in the PBM Squadron in the Pacific. He was also a radioman during the Korean War for the U.S. Ambassador of Turkey. During his service he was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and Good Conduct Medal. He retired in 1963 in Millington, TN. He worked for Metro Airport Security in Nashville until he retired in 1984. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and President of Fleet Reserve Association, branch 110.
Edward was preceded in death by his son Stanley Burns. He was survived by wife of 69 years 8 months Margaret E. Burns and children: Margaret Bourrie and husband Thomas of Buford, GA, Edward Burns Jr. and wife Paulette of Semmes, AL, Barbara Bundren and husband Jerry of Tazewell, TN, James Burns of Hermitage, TN, Nancy McKnight and husband Timm of Troutville, VA, Robert Burns and wife Shelia of Mt. Juliet, TN, John Burns of Clarksville, TN, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Visitation Friday, August 7th 4pm until 8pm at Hermitage Funeral Home. Funeral Mass Saturday, August 8th 1pm at St Stephen's Catholic Community in Old Hickory, TN.
