My Condolences to the Summers Family.
Don was such a wealth of knowledge!  We called him "MacGyver" in the office because if something broke, he could fix it - and if it wasn't broke, he still could fix it and make it better!  Don told me he was going to help me get over my fear of flying by taking me up in his plane. Of course I couldn't do it, but his knowledge of flying helped me get over the fear enough to fly on a commercial plane and I have been flying ever since.  He was such a wealth of knowledge in the field of psychology and addiction, and he was such as wealth of knowledge in life.  His "engineering mind" reminded me so much of my own dad.  I will remember all our conversations on planes, alternative fuels, therapeutic modalities, parents, spouses and kids. I appreciate all that I learned from our conversations.  Rest well my friend, Fly High!

Don will be greatly missed by his MNPD family and colleagues. He was not only a skilled clinician who cared for officers and their families, but also a mentor to many. The Behavioral Health Services Division will never forget his contribution to the wellbeing of first responders, and the Summers Family has our deepest condolences.

I am so sorry at Don's passing. At one of my low points at MNPD Don was a blessing and helped me a great deal. He was a great man who cared for others. RIP Don.

Don Summers was a remarkable man. By the time I came to work with him at the police department, he had already accomplished so much in life – with the military, through the church, as a pilot, and a finally as a therapist. 
Don was one of the pillars of the original PASS program for many years. New clients requested him as their counselor and those he worked with held him in high regard. He was a lifelong learner and continued to develop strategies for helping others until the day he retired. Because he cared.
One of the best things about working with Don was his sense of humor. In a setting that could often be challenging and stressful he was always a lot of fun and lightened the mood for his coworkers - especially at holiday parties.
Don was a fine man. But, above and beyond all, he was a very proud father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by so many people who knew him, along with his family. Sending love and condolences to the entire Summers family as you adjust to losing him.

When we first started attending Lubeck Church of Christ, Don was such an encouragement to my mom and dad. Because of him (and the congregation and their faith in the Lord) they spent many years attending there. Don was an amazing person. Mom and I are so sorry for your loss. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
