Old Hickory, Tennessee
March 3, 1948 – September 11, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Chuck Green announces his passing, September 11, 2024, at age 76, following a heroic fight against Leukemia. Chuck was a loving son, devoted husband to Amelia, great friend, ardent cousin, and avid golfer. He never met a stranger, and those of us who knew him will always remember his smile, great sense of humor, loyalty and love of life.
Born March 3, 1948, in Atlanta to Charles Taylor Green and Frances Howze Green, Chuck grew up with a love of sports and became an accomplished basketball player. Chuck played forward and was captain of his high school and college teams. He graduated high school and junior college from Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia, and went on to Texas State University in Denton, TX and then to Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA.
Chuck launched a successful career in sales and started his own business as a manufacturer’s representative in the building industry. Chuck was a true “people person”. He met and fell in love with Amelia Perkins on a blind date in Atlanta, and they married in 1974. Several years later, the couple moved to Tennessee, where they made their home in the Nashville suburbs of Hermitage and Old Hickory.
In the 1990s, Chuck took up golf and found his true passion. He and Amelia joined a local golf club and developed long-time friendships in their community. They also enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives and friends, and spending time at the beach – reminders of Chuck’s childhood beach vacations and his love of water sports, especially jet-skiing. Chuck lived life to the fullest!
Nearly 40 years after starting his business, Chuck retired in 2016. Chuck and Amelia vacationed at Gulf Shores nearly every year until Chuck’s illness. Earlier this year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Frances Green, of Atlanta, GA; his paternal grandparents, William C. Green and Hattie Lee Taylor Green of Birmingham, AL; and his maternal grandparents, Lawrence Pettway Howze and Ida Lucus Howze, of Marion, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Tulip Grove Baptist Church, Old Hickory, Tenn.; Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; or the charity of your choice.
We offer special thanks to the multitude of friends who prayed for and encouraged Chuck along his journey; to the many excellent doctors and health care providers at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at Centennial Medical Center, whose kindness and compassion were a constant; and to all other medical providers who helped light his way.
