

Bockarie Abu Sesay, was born on September 21, 1954 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bassie and Rukur (Kamara) Sesay and his older sister, Isatu Sesay. Mr. Sesay is survived by his children: Andrew, Ahmid, Maria, and Alimatu Sesay; Grandchildren: Maria Sesay and Amia Sesay; and sister: Yeanoh Sesay and several extended family members.
Abu was a lover of all things! Most importantly, he loved God and his family. His hobbies included listening to music, reading and learning, teaching, gardening and cooking. He was very sociable and enjoyed being in the company of others.
Abu always had a passion for education. During his early years, he attended St. Helena Secondary School. He then attended Milton Margai Teachers College where he served as the student union president. He came to the United States in 1984 where he completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at David Lipscomb University. He later went on to receive his doctorate at Tennessee State University.
His compassion for the Lord was shown throughout his entire life. As a young boy and through adulthood, Abu worked very closely with missionaries and the Church of Christ in Sierra Leone. He attended Kroo Town Church of Christ in Sierra Leone. It was there, that Abu began his career in ministry.
Visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2017 at Hermitage Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and also on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Green Hills Church of Christ, 11706 Lebanon Road, Mount Juliet, Tennessee, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am.
The Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Green Hills Church of Christ at 10:00 am.
Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
The Sesay family would like to express gratitude to Green Hill Church of Christ, the Sierra Leone Community of Nashville, Alive Hospice, Select Specialty Hospital, Tennessee State University, friends and extended family in Sierra Leone.
