Betty Lorene Chaffin Jones, age 89, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025. Born on July 4, 1935, in Old Hickory, Tennessee, Betty spent most of her life in her beloved hometown and nearby Hermitage and Mt Juliet.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was a devoted lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Old Hickory, where she poured her heart into teaching Sunday School classes for decades — from curious three-year-olds to the wise women of the Senior Adult class. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived it out through service, kindness, and compassion.
Betty worked for over 35 years at Bituminous Insurance Company, where she was known for her dedication and work ethic. But more than anything, she loved and cherished her family. Whether gathered for a holiday meal, a simple Sunday visit, or a shared adventure, Betty treasured every moment spent with those she loved.
She had a passion for travel and particularly cherished mission trips with her church. Among her favorite journeys were visiting the Holy Land in Jerusalem and exploring Italy with her granddaughter, Tara — experiences that deepened her faith and her bonds with family.
Some of her fondest memories were made close to home — Betty loved going to Opryland Theme Park with her family, often taking her mother and grandchildren to watch all of the shows and ride every ride! These simple, happy moments brought her great delight and created lasting memories for those she loved most.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert “Buck” Jones; her son, Samuel Chaffin; her parents, Mabin and Bessie Chaffin; and her brothers Robert (Bob), Jim, and Curtis Chaffin.
She is survived by her daughter, Rita Chaffin Davis; grandchildren Thomas Davis (Kathleen) and Tara Leurs (Jeff); great-grandchildren Caitlin Dowless (John), Sarah Davis, Lilliana Leurs, Colin Davis, and Scarlett Leurs; great-great-grandson Noah Dowless; her sister, Ruby Keith; and brothers Larry Chaffin and Cordell “Corky” Chaffin.
Betty’s legacy is one of faith, family, and steadfast love. She touched many lives and leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will take place at noon.
