Anna was born in 1952 in Pensacola, FL. First born of an Air Force officer and his wife. As military families tend to do, they moved quite a few times during her early years and finally settled in Bossier City, LA where she attended and graduated from Bossier High School in 1970. During her high school days she was active in several groups including the Bearkat pep kat squad, student council, and year book committee. Outside of school she was active in church activities with CYO and Y-teens.
She married Larry Shepherd in 1973. They had first dated during their senior year in high school and developed a strong love for each other that continues to this day. After marriage she completed a bachelors degree in business from LA Tech University and she and her husband became very active in the leadership activities of the LA Jaycees organization both locally and on a state level. Always politically active, she worked in her local community assisting with the successful election campaigns of a two LA governors.
In 1990 she and her husband moved from Baton Rouge, LA to Nashville where they have raised 3 children to adulthood and now have 5 grandchildren. As her children entered high school at McGavock she became active with the McGavock Band Boosters, serving as president of the booster club and a board member of the McGavock Cluster Coalition. She was active as a team mom and supporting her children as they all played baseball at Rotary Park Little League and girl’s softball at Civitan Park.
After her youngest child graduated from McGavock High School in 2004, she began to step up her game and become more active in other community groups and activities.
At St Stephen Catholic Community where she and her husband are members, she served on the Parish Council, served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, was involved with the Ladies of Charity, and served as group leader with her husband for many years for Engaged Couples Retreats.
She served as president of her local HOA Board as well as president of Donelson-Hermitage Neighborhood Association.
She is a member of the Rotary Club and the Exchange Club. She served for a short period on thee Nashville Property Standards and Appeals Board.
She is a member of the Old Hickory Chamber of Commerce.
She is a member of Donelson-Hermitage Chamber of Commerce and board member of the McGavock Cluster Coalition, which seeks to increase the percentage of McGavock High School students graduating with the skills and support necessary to be successful in post-secondary education.
She is a graduate and board member of L’Evate (formerly Leadership Donelson-Hermitage) and a recent graduate of the 2018 class of Leadership Nashville.
She recently retired in July of 2019 as the payroll manager for the Catholic Diocese of Nashville after 20 years.
She is currently in her 3rd term and 10th year serving on the Metro Nashville Public School Board of Education representing district 4 in the Donelson, Hermitage, and Old Hickory areas of Davidson county. She is currently the Chair of the BOE, having served in the capacity for 3 years over two different periods.
She is preceded In death by her father, mother and one nephew. Survived by her husband, one daughter, two sons, 5 grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and seven nieces and nephews.
There will be a Funeral Mass on Tuesday June 23, 2020 at 11 am at St. Stephen's Catholic Community.
