Wanda Mae Ross, 87, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 14, 2017. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met. Wanda was born on June 5, 1930 in Clinton, North Carolina to Henry Claxton Lewis and Fronie Mae (Mitchell) Lewis. She graduated from Central Wesleyan High School in Central, SC and upon graduation attended Central Wesleyan College. She married the love of her life Marion Gaines Ross on August 22, 1950 in High Point, North Carolina. Through this union their daughter Joy was born.
Wanda’s faith in God was of utmost importance to her and she had a strong desire to show Christ’s love to all she met; especially children and missionaries. The Ross home was always full of people; hospitality was an important part of her ministry to others. Throughout her life she shared her creativity with people around the world and spent the last 10 years making beautiful butterflies you can find on display wherever she went. Anyone that knew Wanda describes her as a happy, generous and warm hearted lady. She loved everyone she met. Wanda was a dedicated member of the College Church of the Nazarene. She will be sadly missed.
Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lewis and Fronie Lewis, her loving husband of 59 years, M. Gaines Ross, sister, Elizabeth Louise Lewis and brother, Thomas (Tommy) Claxton Lewis. She is survived by her daughter Joy Johnson and her husband Jim of Lenexa, Kansas. Left behind to cherish her memory is her grandson Jordan Johnson and her sister Julia Anne Cotner and husband William.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, October 21st at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Burial in Olathe Memorial Cemetery 738 North Chestnut Street Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
