Thomas “Tom” William Steen, avid outdoorsman, enthusiastic storyteller and most importantly, family man, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Connie Steen, his two sons Jered (Laurie), Chad (Cindy) stepson Russell Carrington (Holly) and stepdaughter Tina Carrington as well as six grandchildren. He also leaves behind sisters’ Lori Greenlee (Jim) and Christina Goff-Porazik (Andy), and several nephews, a niece and their children. He is preceded in death by his mother Lorene Steen, his father William Steen and brother James Steen.
Tom was born on May 30, 1944. A native Kansas Citian, he graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1962, soon joining the Air Force Reserves. After his military service, he embarked on his career in different aspects of the housing industry including planning, construction and ultimately sales, which he enjoyed until his retirement at age 65.
Tom loved being surrounded by nature, reading and researching about history and current events and telling fantastic stories. But above all, his wife, children and grandchildren were his greatest joy.
