Susan Margaret Newby, 77, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 21, 2020. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she knew.
Susan was born on June 27, 1943 in El Dorado, Kansas to Rodney Dean and Rachal Genevieve (Boyer) Bohrer. She attended and graduated from Douglass High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1965 at Kansas State University, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and found her love in writing. She later earned a Master’s Degree in Continuing Education also through Kansas State University.
She married the love of her life, Richard Dean Newby on October 3, 1969 in Miami, Oklahoma. Together they raised their two daughters Denise and Rachal.
Upon graduation, Susan went to work for the Wichita Eagle. She then had a longtime career in marketing communications at North Supply (Sprint). After retiring, she continued her love of writing, by creating grants for St. Mary’s University.
Nothing gave her more pleasure in life than spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren. Susan was an avid K-State fan, attending every football game possible with Richard, including many fun bowl game trips. There are countless wonderful memories from time spent with her longtime friends, from Saturday lunches to epic annual girls trips. She especially looked forward to attending her grandsons’ baseball games, always the team grandma.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents Rodney and Rachal Bohrer. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Richard Dean Newby of the home. Her two daughters Denise Diane Baumgart and son-in-law Todd of Olathe, Kansas and Rachal Dawn Prout and her husband Bill of Omaha, Nebraska. Left behind to cherish her memory are her three grandchildren Tanner Baumgart, Colton Baumgart and Amanda Prout. Brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Sara Bohrer of South Dakota
Due to Covid restrictions a “Celebration of Life” honoring Susan’s life will take place on June 27, 2021 at the home she loved, with her beautiful garden in bloom. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kansas State University.
