Russell Edwin Houston, 72, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, Grandpa, Papa, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he knew.
Russell was born on May 28, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank Edwin and Marjorie Irene (Moore) Houston. He attended and graduated from DeSoto High School. He met the love of his life Mary Ann (Carnes) and they were married on November 1, 1970. Together they raised their four children Walter Edwin, Connie, Billy and Terri.
Russell worked as a chef at several food service establishments within the Kansas City area. He was a faithful and dedicated helper for The Salvation Army in Olathe, Kansas. Priding himself with organizing, cooking and asking for donations from the area businesses for their Thanksgiving fundraiser. Russell enjoyed spending time with his family and nothing gave him more pleasure in life than the time he spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his favorite westerns with John Wayne, Chuck Norris and the Andy Griffith television series. He was a faithful Christian servant that fellowshipped at Olathe View Baptist. He will be sadly missed.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, son Walter Edwin Houston, sister Rena Rea, and five brothers Melvin Empt, Charlie Krone, Darrel Schirlls, John Houston, Billy Joe Houston and his grandson Caleb Conner. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Mary Houston of the home, one son Billy Houston and his wife Jean of Lansing, Kansas, two daughters Connie Houston and Terri Houston both of Olathe, Kansas. He will be sadly missed by his seven grandchildren Christopher Conner (Hannah Welch), Cody Conner, Colton Conner (Ceiddy), Hannah Houston, Grace Houston, Clara Houston Jordan Houston and two great grandchildren Penelope Conner and Luca Conner. Russell is also survived by his sister Linda Edwards of Branson, Missouri and his sister-in-law Karen Houston of
Topeka, Kansas. Along with “Rusty”, his faithful companion and “Pearl” his loving cat.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Olathe View Baptist Church 339 N. Olathe View Rd. Olathe, Kansas. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the church. Private family interment immediately following the funeral service in Monticello Union Cemetery Shawnee, Kansas.
