Ronald (Ron) H. Berg, 75 Baldwin City, Kansas (formerly of Concordia, Mo) left those he loved on January 27, 2018, after his long battle of cancer to join his lifelong sweetheart, Maureen (Liz) E Berg. Ron was a graduate of Kirkwood High, Missouri Valley College, and Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. In 1964 in Dallas Texas he met the love of his life on a blind date. He married Maureen Elizabeth (Liz) Roberts of Randolph, New York, on May 1, 1965 in Randolph. Ron is the son of David F. and Laura (Knapp) Berg in Kirkwood, Mo.
Visitation will be January 31st from 6pm-8pm at McGilley and Frye Funeral home in Olathe, KS. A Mass of Christian burial will be Feb. 1st at 10:30 am Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas. Burial is at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas. Memorial donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House and/or KC Hospice House.
Ron was a licensed Embalmer and Funeral Director with licenses in Missouri and Kansas. Ron began his career working at Pfitizger Mortuary in Kirkwood, Missouri. In 1964 he joined the Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, Missouri. In 1965 Ron and his wife Liz purchased the E.S. James Funeral Home in Concordia, Missouri. Later they purchased two more funeral homes in Sweet Springs and Blackburn, Missouri. Ron and Liz worked side by side for 35 years in the Mortuary business serving four counties in these three communities. They retired in 2001 to Olathe Kansas to be closer to their kids. They both remained in the Funeral Industry working for Mt. Moriah and Freeman and the McGilley Memorial Chapels in MO and KS.
Ron never knew a stranger and loved telling jokes. He was involved in many organizations throughout his life. Boy Scouts of America, Jaycees, Lions Club, Civic Club, Chamber of Commerce for Concordia and Sweet Springs, and Tri-City Country Club Committee Member, Knights of Columbus to name a few.
Ron was a member of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association for over 50 years. He was President of MFDA in 1998-1999 and District Director for MFDA, while also serving on the National Board of Directors.
In recognition of service to Lions Eye Tissue Bank, he was recognized with a distinguished service award from the University of Missouri Eye Research.
Hobbies are playing golf and fishing with his family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years and 11 months, his parents David and Laura Berg, and his sister Dawn Kopff. Ron is survived by his four children, Ron Jr. (wife Sheri Stamper) Belton Mo., Mike (wife Amy) Baldwin City, KS, Mary Berg (Groves) (husband Brent) Olathe, KS, and Tim (wife Wendy) Baldwin City, KS. Seven grandchildren, Drew, Alison, Chad, Nick, Alex, Jake, and Lauren. One great grandchild, Grace. He is also survived by his brother Dave (wife Emmy) Berg of Columbia Mo., his brother in-law, Tom (wife Lou) Roberts of Chesterton, IN, sister in-law Mary Ruth (husband Dr. Robert) Rasey of Olean NY and many nieces and nephews.
