Rodney Fieldon Nichols, 78, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society of Olathe. Rodney will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he knew.
Rodney was born on August 25, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri to Hal Samuel and Frances (Kerfoot) Nichols. He attended and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School. He married the love of his life Patricia Suzanne Howe on March 9, 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they raised their three children Christina Dianne, Scot Alan and Deborah Louise Nichols.
Rodney worked on a printing press for a Computer Printing Company, Data Documents, Inc. for more than 25 years. A promotion there moved the family from the Kansas City area to Houston and later Dallas, Texas. His wife’s job took them to Petaluma, California, where he (and his son) purchased and ran a secretarial service, Advanced Administrative Services in Petaluma. The business was located in a beautiful iron front building downtown. When they moved back into the Kansas City area he worked for Sprint as a customer service representative. He retired at the age of 60. Rodney was a member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing with his father. Nothing gave him more pleasure in life than the time he spent with his family. He will be greatly missed.
Rodney is preceded in death by his loving parents Hal and Frances Nichols and his sister Karen Olsen.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Patty) Nichols of the home, two daughters: Christina Harper and her husband Joe in Spring Hill, Kansas and Deborah Vitale and her husband Dan, of Olathe, Kansas and his son Scot Nichols and his wife Carolyn Tofson Nichols of Hemet, California. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his brother Hal S.Nichols Jr. and his sister Donna Rae Nichols and his six grandchildren Jessica Nichols, Bradlee Nichols, Amanda Nichols, Miranda and Ryan Stamer, Jenny and Chris Constant and Kelsey and Danny Sheeran. He is also survived by four great grandchildren Noah Nichols, Everett Stamer, Norah Stamer and Mabrey Stamer.
Rodney will be cremated according to his wishes. A “Celebration of Life” will be held ar 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Good Samaritan Society of Olathe Kansas.
