Robert Coleman Jorgensen, Sr. went to be with the Lord in April of 2020. Bob grew up on a dairy owned by his family during the Great Depression. He had fond memories of walking to the one room school house where his mother was sometimes the substitute teacher. Hard work on the farm bailing alfalfa, endless milking of cows, and helping his mom in the kitchen instilled a wonderful work ethic that made a lasting impression on him.
In high school he enjoyed ice skating, playing the saxophone and also a lively game of basketball. Bob once had a 1932 Ford Roadster Model 18 that he loved to drive. It had a powerful V-8! At 17, with a written letter of permission from his mom and signed by a general ensuring further education, Bob began a long career of serving our country in the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and the Cold war.
With a strong sense of right and wrong, Bob was baptized while a young man. Bob was a member of the Kansas Freemasons Masonic Lodge, Stanley Lodge #444. In 1987, one highlight was helping to celebrate the Golden Gate Bridge's 50th Anniversary by walking from north to south and back again with his daughter very early in the morning. Generally quiet and soft spoken, Bob was active with church and meeting friends at McDonald's, Waffle House, and Publix. He attended the Christian Singles Dances for many years and was an excellent dancer.
Bob led an exemplary life by always encouraging others with his kind and thoughtful words. A special thanks to his dear friends who went above and beyond the call of duty to give him a helping hand during his last days. No flowers, please: take a friend out for an occasional cup of coffee instead! Deut. 31:8, Is. 40:27-31, Mt. 6:9-13, Ecc. 3:1-8, Ps 23, Mt. 22:37-40.
Bob is survived by sons Robert and Randall (Tammie), and daughter Evelyn (William). He is also survived by sister-in-law Charlene, brothers Paul, William (Tina), and Richard as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Internment with full military honors. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 15th at 2:00 p.m. in Pleasant Valley Cemetery Overland Park, Kansas. Arrangements made thru McGilley and Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas 66061.
