Robert (Bob) Dunz passed away Friday April 11, 2025, after many visits from family and friends to celebrate his 90th birthday, or as we liked to call it, the 61st anniversary of his 29th birthday. A informal celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday May 31st from 3 to 5 PM at McGilley and Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, KS with interment of his ashes in Olathe Memorial Cemetery at a later time.
Bob was preceded in death by his Mother (Bertha), Father (Otto), sister Edna Pollard, and brother Wesley. He is survived by sisters Loretta Semrau, Eileene Kirk, Jean Dunz, and Betty Hawkins, and brothers Alvin (Anna) and William (Margaret); his sons Walter and Alan (Angela), and daughter Deborah (Adam) Montgomery; grandchildren Alex, Heather, Jake, Rachel (Cubby) Theisman, Sami (Ernest) Harwell, and Cory Dozier; and several great-grandchildren.
His life was built on the idea that you can do anything if you just apply some hard work. Through his years he had a variety of jobs including farmhand, oil rig worker, bus station ticket clerk, owner of several small businesses, building maintenance, bartender, construction, and finally, stagehand work. He could always be depended on to lend a hand when you needed help.
He loved working in his garden, and if it was tomato season, he had many to give to you. He was a longtime member of the Independent Order of Foresters. He also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, traveling (especially to Canada to visit family and to Las Vegas), and camping. If you ever went camping with him, you would be woken by a serenade of “Lucky Old Sun” that he always sang first thing in the morning.
Please join us to celebrate his life on May 31st, and if you can't, please raise a glass to him in your own way and time.
