Michael Lee Cooney, 64, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 28, 2020. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving son, brother, father, uncle and friend to everyone he met.
“Mikie” as he was known by his family and friends was born in Rushville, Indiana on August 25, 1955 to Fred and Barbara (Stanley) Cooney. His passion was riding his Harley motorcycle, in his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent his time relaxing by working in his garden and watching his favorite television shows. He was a grill master and enjoyed grilling out and gathering with his family. He will be sadly missed.
Michael is preceded in death by his father, Fred Cooney and his brother, Dennis Cooney. He is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Marie (Donegan) Cooney of the home, his mother, Barbara Cooney of Olathe, Kansas, two daughters, Leanne Stafford and her husband John of Clarksville, Tennessee, Becky Penson of Lenexa, Kansas, one son, Ryan Penson of Olathe, Kansas and his faithful companion “Jack”. Michael is also survived by his two sisters, Sue Smith of Olathe, Kansas and Carol Miller and her husband Allen of Zimmerman, Minnesota. Left behind to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephews, Tamara Benhassine (Ben), Jessica Arye Postlethwait (Miles), Joseph Claycomb, Chad McGuire, Jenny Lamontagne and Jesse James Cooney.
