Matthew Thomas Billings, 46, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away at home on Thursday, December 13, 2018. He will forever be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to everyone he met.
Matthew was born on May 13, 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri to Thomas D. and Judith Ann (Burwell) Billings. He attended and graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School. After graduation, Matt volunteered into the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm. He served his country honorably receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Thomas D. Billings in 2014. He is survived by his loving mother, Judith Ann Billings of Olathe, Kansas, two brothers, Christopher Billings and his wife Lisa of Olathe, Kansas and Michael Billings of Lenexa, Kansas. One sister, Elizabeth Ann Doleshal of Austin, Texas, two nephews, Nicholas Billings, Walker Nurmi and three nieces, Bailey Billings, Madysen Nurmi and Brooke Ann Nurmi. Left behind to cherish his memory is his dearest friend, Catherine Zelenski of Kansas City, Kansas. He will be sadly missed by the many friends from his construction crew, the gym he frequently attended and most importantly those from Little Sisters and Brothers of the lamb.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 19, 2018 at Cure’of Ars Catholic Church 9401 Mission Road Leawood, Kansas 66206.
