Judith “Judie” Ann Cornwell, 77, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. She was born in San Angelo, Texas, the daughter of Anne Eno and Russell Eno. She had many passions: family, gardening, cooking, animals, Coca-Cola, and shopping. But foremost among her passions was her family; she was a beloved wife to Galen “Woody” Cornwell, and sister to Gail, preceded in death by her sisters Rachel and Gloria and her brother Leon.
Mother of five children, grandmother of eighteen grandchildren, great-grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandmother to two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved Son, Wayne E Cornwell II. She is survived by her Husband, Galen; her four children: Zotoz Hines, James “JE” Cornwell, Laura Walterman, and Allison Sollars; and her sister Gail Rhodes.
Judie loved her family and friends, but what made her truly unique was her infinite capacity to love beyond her family and make a warm and welcoming home away from home. She loved showing love for those around her by cooking one of many famous dishes, be it her mouth-watering beef stroganoff or her delicious lasagna. She was not only a skilled cook but a gifted gardener. Those who visited her home could immediately notice her love of gardening, be it the apple tree greeting you as you walked to the front door or the many plants throughout her home. Every spring and summer, she could be found working in her garden, tending to it with the same love and care she had for cooking.
Beyond her love of family, friends, cooking, and gardening, she deeply loved animals, having made a home for many animals throughout her life, often taking them on trips around the country with her and Galen. Additionally, Judie was a skilled florist and ceramist, creating handcrafted floral arrangements and ceramics for her daughters' weddings, and for her home and friends. Her abundance of love and passion for her family, friends, and hobbies will be deeply missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life will be Friday, June 23, 2023 at 6:00pm at the Abdallah Shriners, 5300 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66212.
