He was popular in the Deaf community, having spent a lot of time at the
Kansas School for the Deaf because of his father, Gary, and sister, Jarlene. He
always put his family before himself and was always looking out for his sister,
Jarlene. He constantly strived to provide communication between the deaf
and hearing communities, doing numerous interpretation jobs to assist
others.
Garvin is survived by his parents, Gary Cross and Judith Bauer; younger sister,
Jarlene (Cross) Villalobos; younger brother, Keith Bauer; his three children,
Jessica, Garrett, and Mayla; niece, Jacqueline, and her partner Alfonso;
great-niece Jakayla; and twin nephews Caleb and Jacob.
Garvin is loved by many childhood friends, and they grew stronger with each
other. He graduated from Olathe North High in 1991. Garvin enjoyed grilling
and entertaining family and friends. He had a knack for making friends easily
and making everyone feel like his best friend. Joey and Vaughn were two of
Garvin’s best friends who enjoyed camping and fishing and would be found by
Garvin’s side gaming or planning the next adventure.
Garvin was fascinated by aviation and loved talking about it with anyone who
would listen. One of his fondest memories was visiting his grandpa, a retired
Air Force pilot, and getting to see an F-15 up close. During his childhood, he
would build model rockets and was even featured in the Olathe Daily News. He
loved 16" scale railroads and created a large landscape that took up an entire
room.
Garvin and his business partner, Robert, were in a multimedia company that
did visual tributes with many funeral homes in the greater Kansas City and
surrounding areas, meeting the needs of countless families to provide closure
and celebrate the lives of loved ones.
Everyone relied on him whenever they had tech issues. He would find just
about any topic that interested him and research it to death, making sure his
findings were accurate.
Garvin was genuinely a people person. With a heart full of love for his family,
he invited them to live in his multigenerational home. He may have seemed
like he was being put out, but he enjoyed being needed and helping others.
His departure comes as a great shock and deep wound, and it is profoundly
felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply. The family
appreciates your support during this difficult time.
A memorial service for Garvin will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 105 E. Loula Street, Olathe, KS 66061.
