Dennis attended school in Sac City and graduated in 1965. In February 1966 he joined the United States Army and spent 13 months in Korea. He was honorably discharged in December 1968. He started college in January 1969 and graduated from St. Cloud State College in December 1972. Dennis was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Dennis began his law enforcement career in the state of Washington in April 1973. In December 1973 he moved to Kansas to continue in law enforcement where he retired as a Master Trooper from the Kansas Highway Patrol in March 1998.
Dennis married his first wife, Mary Thompson, in February 1968. To this union two children were born, a daughter Traci Lyn, and a son Richard (Rick) Edwin Rogers II. Dennis and Mary divorced in 1978.
Dennis was united in marriage to Cheryl Smith in 1989.
Dennis was an avid motorcycle rider and had a great passion for teaching others to ride. Dennis and Cheryl were able to ride motorcycles in all 50 states.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter Traci Frazier (Rex) of Holton, KS, son Richard Rogers (Tracie) of Bonner Springs, KS; and five grandchildren: Cael Frazier, Alec Frazier, Gabby (Alex) Stice, Tyler Rogers and Madison Rogers. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Venteicher of Iowa City, IA.
Memorials may be given to the Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, KS.
